The Verb

A Verb is a word that tells or asserts something about a person or thing.

Verbs are of two kinds

1.Transitive Verb.
2.Intransitive Verb.

1. Transitive Verb

A Verb that has an object is called a Transitive Verb.
example:
Suriyaa wrote a letter.

2.Intransitive Verb

A Verb that does not have an object is called an Intransitive Verb.
example:
Suriyaa ran quickly.

Brief Explain :

Read these sentences:
1. The boy kicks the football.
2. The boy laughs loudly.

In sentence 1, the action denoted by the verb 'kicks' passes over from the doer or subject 'boy' to some object football. The verb kicks is, therefore, called a Transitive verb.

In sentence 2, the action denoted by the verb, 'laughs' stops with the doer or subject 'boy' and does not pass over to an object. The verb 'laugh' is, therefore called a Intransitive verb.

(Transitive means - passive over)
(Intransitive means - not passing over)

A Transitive verb is a verb that denotes an action which passes over from the doer or subject to an object.
An Intransitive verb is a verb that denotes an action which does not pass over to an object, or which expresses a state or being.

The baby sleeps. (State)
She ran a long distance.(Action)
There is a flaw in this diamond.(Being)

Intonation

Intonation is the word for the 'melody' of spoken language : the way the musical pitch of the voice rises and falls. Intonation systems in languages are very complicated and difficult to analyze. and linguists disagree about how english intonation works.

English Manor Home

One was in which Intonation seems to be used is to snow how apiece of information fits in with what comes before and after . For instance, a speaker may raise his or her voice when taking over the conversation from-somebody else, or to indicate a change of subject. A rise or fall on a particular word may show that this is the 'centre' of the message  -the place where the new information is being given; or it may signal a contrast or  a special emphasis. When a speaker ends-on a falling tone, this often expresses some kind of conclusion or certainty: a rising tone at the end of a sentence may express uncertainty , suggest that there is more to be said, or invite another speaker to take over.

Intonation (together with speed, voice quality and loudness) can also say things about the speaker's attitude. For instance, when people are excited or angry they often raise and lower their voices more.
