There are four kinds of Gender in English.
1.Masculine Gender
All names of male animals or persons are of the masculine gender, A Masculine gender is always a 'He' senser.
eg: boy, father, king, lion, headmaster, cock, etc.
2.Feminine Gender
All names of female animals or persons are of the feminine gender, A feminine gender is always a 'She' senser.
eg: girl, mother, queen, lioness, headmistress, hen, etc.
It is formed by adding-'ess' or 'ss' at the end eg: host -hostess ,putting he or she before the noun
eg: he -wolf----she-wolf.
3.Common Gender
Names that can be used to both male and female are of the Common Gender, it is either 'He' or 'She'.
eg: friend, servant, student, parent, chil, etc.
4.Neuter Gender
The Name of a thing that is neither male or female having no life is called Neuter Gender,, it is either 'He' nor 'She'.
eg: book, pen, tree, room, chair, stone,etc.
Collective nouns, even when they denote living being, are considered of the neuter gender. Young children and the lower animals are also referred to as of the neuter gender.
The Masculine Gender is often applied to objects remarkable for strength and violence.
eg: The Sun, summer, Time, Death, Winter, etc.
The sun shed his beams on rich and poor alike.
The Feminine Gender is often applied to objects remarkable for beauty, gentleness, grace and fullness.
eg: The Moon, the Earth, Spring, Autumn, Nature, Justice, Mercy, Charity, etc.
This use is most common in poetry but certain nouns are personified in prose too. a ship is always spoken of as 'she'
eg: The ship lost all her boats in the storm.
